The weight of student loan debt can make a career in public or community health nearly impossible for new dentists. The CDA Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant program aims to encourage recipients to care for the underserved. Applications are now being accepted.
CDA members and component dental society directors are invited to nominate an active or retired licensed California dentist for the CDA Foundation’s 2022 Humanitarian Award honoring the late Andrew Soderstrom, DDS.
To support the provision of dental care for Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, the CDA Foundation has opened the Ukraine Relief Fund. The fund is now accepting monetary donations from CDA members and others who wish to contribute.
CalHealthCares, overseen by the California Department of Health Care Services, is designed to expand access to care by incentivizing dentists to serve Medi-Cal beneficiaries by repaying educational debt or covering eligible practice-related expenses.
The CDA Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant has been awarded annually since 2002. The two recipients of the 2021 grant are Sogole Tabatabaiepur, DDS, and Jose Carrasco Sandoval, DDS.
The CDA Foundation hosted the clinic at Northern Valley Indian Health. With the support of 31 volunteers, including the NVIH staff, dentists were able to safely perform 271 procedures, such as fillings, cleanings and extractions, for a total of $28,211 in care.
The COVID-19 landscape continues to evolve, and nonprofit organizations, especially those that facilitate access to health care, need support more than ever as they explore ways to deliver essential services to individuals safely ― and typically at an increased financial cost.
At the CDA Foundation, we recognize that 2020 brought unprecedented challenges not only to the dental profession but to individuals and families throughout California because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are especially grateful for your support and generosity.
“There are people in my community who will tell you that the Well-Being Program is probably the most important benefit they’ve received as a CDA member,” said Matthew Korn, DDS, chair of the CDA Well-Being Committee. The program assists dental community members who suffer from alcohol or chemical dependency or both.
