Published for 130 years, the Journal of the California Dental Association continues to evolve as a trusted, open-access scientific publication of reviews, original research articles and case reports for CDA members and the greater health care community.
Now, the CDA Journal is expanding its reach by transitioning to a new digital online platform, Taylor & Francis, an international publisher of over 2,700 scholarly journals. This change will make Journal research more accessible, searchable and shareable, and eventually indexed for the benefit of authors, clinicians and all readers.
Plus, CDA members will enjoy special curated collections just for them with guidance on regulatory compliance, risk management and other areas beyond clinical research, and readers can continue to earn continuing education credits directly through the Journal.
‘Placing the Journal in good company with leading scientific publications’
“As our colleagues around the nation look to CDA for innovative solutions, so too do they look to the Journal of the California Dental Association as a standard of excellence in oral health association publications,” said Kerry Carney, DDS, CDE, editor-in-chief of the CDA Journal for over 14 years.
Dr. Carney also noted that the transition and indexing are “first steps toward placing the Journal in good company with leading scientific publications” and that CDA members can look to the award-winning peer-reviewed Journal for a “curated experience on topics they may not naturally seek out.”
Highlights from the latest Journal collection
The latest Journal collection includes a case study on using revascularization to manage a severe intrusive injury in an immature permanent tooth; an article examining how an oral-medicine practice can bridge the dental-medical services gap for vulnerable populations; and a narrative review of the implications of COVID-19 and periodontal conditions for oral health providers.
Other articles investigate how dentistry adapts during public health emergencies and how oral health assessments, as part of the Kindergarten Oral Health Requirement, can improve access to care for school children in California.

Managing intrusive injury in an immature permanent incisor
Severe intrusive injuries in immature permanent teeth can be effectively managed with revascularization even when initiation of revascularization must be delayed due to extended time needed for orthodontic repositioning. This case study, “Management of Severe Intrusive Injury in an Immature Permanent Incisor with Revascularization,” describes the management of a severe traumatic intrusion presenting with an uncomplicated crown fracture, pulp necrosis and external root resorption. Bridging the dental-medical services gap in an oral medicine practice
Aging, uninsured and underserved populations, ethnic/racial minority groups, as well as residents of rural areas, are most vulnerable to suffering from a lack of access to health care.
