Practice Management Considerations of an Orofacial Pain/Dental Sleep Medicine Practice

This course reviews patient clinical charting information and type of charting typically needed for medical billing for office visits and TMD/MAD treatments. The review will include examples of medical EMR software, supplies used for TMD/MAD treatments and examples of suppliers for TMD/MAD treatments. An example of a superbill used in a dedicated orofacial pain practice will be discussed. This course will include the necessary components for charting the different levels of office visits as well as documentation recommendations for procedures such as joint injections and MAD therapy. Different ways of addressing billing for these services will be reviewed.

  • Differences in the setup of orofacial pain practice and a general dental office.
    space requirements for an orofacial pain office and personnel needs – front and back office
  • Supplies typically used in an orofacial pain practice and where to source
  • Review of medications used in an orofacial pain practice for diagnostics and treatment
  • Examples and benefits of medical electronic health records (EHR) software
  • Patient charting recommended prior to billing for mandibular advancement appliances (MAD’s)
  • Ordering imaging of the TMJ (CT, MRI) and other procedures with examples of insurer guidelines
  • Differences of being in-network vs. out of network with insurers and what the process typically involves
