Fluoride Facts, Myths & Meaningful Conversations: Communicating Effectively with Patients

This one-hour continuing education course is designed to equip dental professionals with effective communication strategies for discussing the benefits and safety of fluoride with patients. Participants will learn how to address common misconceptions, provide evidence-based responses, and foster trust through clear and empathetic dialogue. Misinformation about fluoridation will be addressed, including clarification on different fluoride sources, ingested vs. topical fluorides, and recent fluoridation legislation. The session will include practical approaches, case scenarios, and a Q&A segment to reinforce key concepts.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Communicate the benefits of fluoride in preventing dental caries using clear, patient-friendly language. 
  2. Address common concerns and misconceptions about fluoride safety with evidence-based responses. 
  3. Build patient trust through active listening and empathetic communication techniques.
