Occupational pain among dental professionals is a widespread problem that adversely affects our careers and daily life. As a practicing dentist recovering from disabling pain, I will share my journey to wellness and my findings from extensive research. You will learn the reasons behind musculoskeletal challenges in dentistry and learn practical strategies to manage or prevent them altogether. These include ergonomics in the operatory, finding effective healthcare, physical therapy exercises, and other self-help methods.
Learning Objectives: Identify the most common musculoskeletal disorders in dentistry and associate awkward postures. Discuss how prolonged static posture cause muscle imbalances, leading to pain syndromes in dental professionals. Learn ergonomic principles, including posture, position, and periodic stretch, to prevent muscle imbalances. Learn simple chairside stretches, home exercises, and self-care methods to prevent occupational musculoskeletal disorders.
