The CDA Foundation’s board of directors plays a vital role in fulfilling our mission. The board’s guidance leads ongoing efforts to support dental professionals, reduce barriers to care and improve Californians’ oral health through volunteerism and funding. Get to know Peter DuBois, a member of the board.
When Peter DuBois was pursuing his law degree at Harvard Law School, he was presented with an opportunity that would change the trajectory of his professional career. He took a leave from school to pursue a position as an intern staff member for a joint select committee on mentally ill and disabled children and adolescents. It was this decision that led him to pursue a career in health care policy and administration.
After earning his degree from Harvard, DuBois returned to California, where he began a career in mental health advocacy and services administration. He went on to become CEO of the medical group at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles before leading the University of California San Francisco faculty practice and Sutter Health’s specialty medical group. Eventually, he joined CDA as executive director, a role he has proudly held for 23 years.
In addition to his role as executive director, DuBois serves on many boards and committees, demonstrating his dedication to organized dentistry and excellence in patient care and protection. He serves as a board member for CDA, TDIC Insurance Solutions, Rotunda Partners and CDA Presents Board of Managers. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of Californians Allied for Patient Protection, the Strategic Advisory Council for the NYU College of Dentistry, and the Santa Fe Group, a national oral health think tank.
For those considering volunteering, DuBois explained that there are ample opportunities within organized dentistry, each profoundly rewarding. “Being involved in community efforts — whether it’s oral health literacy projects in your community, wellness events or volunteering at a local clinic — is a deeply fulfilling and purposeful endeavor. In organized dentistry, including at the CDA Foundation, you’ll find many opportunities to get involved in ways that match your interests.”
