The CDA Foundation’s board of directors plays a vital role in fulfilling the Foundation’s mission. The board leads ongoing efforts to support dental professionals, reduce barriers to care and improve Californians’ oral health. Get to know board member Kevin Kai, DDS, MS.
Dr. Kevin Kai’s passion for organized dentistry and volunteerism began during his dental education. While studying for his doctorate degree at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, he served as chair of the student delegation for CDA and was involved with national leadership for the American Student Dental Association. At Dugoni, he also helped organize and lead volunteer trips to Jamaica where students and faculty provided patients in underserved communities with dental care, oral health screenings and education.
After graduation, Kai completed the post-doctoral orthodontics program and earned a master’s in craniofacial biology from the University of California, San Francisco. During his time at UCSF, he also served as chief resident of the orthodontics program.
When he moved home to San Jose, he began practicing at Kai Orthodontics, a family-owned practice.
In addition to serving on the CDA Foundation Board, Kai is a member of the CDA Board of Directors and participates in the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Santa Clara County Dental Society. This involvement reflects his dedication to organized dentistry and professional development.
When asked what he enjoys most about his involvement with the Foundation, Kai said that he values the opportunity to work alongside other dedicated leaders who are committed to making a difference. “It’s incredibly rewarding to work alongside passionate leaders who are committed to creating meaningful, lasting impact through service, education, workforce development and community partnerships.”
