Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) can significantly influence craniofacial development, orthodontic stability, airway health, and overall oral function. Dental professionals are often the first to observe signs of dysfunctional oral habits, mouth breathing, low tongue posture, and atypical swallowing patterns, yet many clinicians lack a systematic approach to screening and referral.
This course will review the etiology and clinical presentation of OMDs and provide practical screening strategies that can be incorporated into routine dental examinations.
Participants will learn to identify red flags associated with airway compromise, sleep-disordered breathing, malocclusion, and temporomandibular dysfunction.
Guidance will also be provided on interdisciplinary collaboration and appropriate referral pathways.
