Hand pain could be ‘severe and prolonged’ for some dental students, study shows
A survey completed in 2018-19 by 373 dental students and postgraduates at the New York University College of Dentistry assessed the prevalence of and identified behaviors associated with hand musculoskeletal pain.
The authors of this case study found that musculoskeletal pain may be common among students and residents. While most reported that pain was only mild and fleeting, the pain could be severe and prolonged for some students.
“While dental school programs typically provide students lectures on body ergonomics, specific training on hand ergonomics appears warranted,” the authors concluded.
Case report on xanthogranuloma of the palate in an adult with differential diagnosis
Dentists may be the first to recognize adult oral xanthogranuloma on the palatal mucosa during inspection of the oral cavity, though a clinical diagnosis is difficult due to the condition’s rare occurrence in adults and because oral lesions may present a wide range of clinical features leading to various misdiagnoses.
This case report documents only the second occurrence of the condition in adults.
