Evidence-Based Management of Temporomandibular Disorders

This lecture will review aspects of temporomandibular joint disorders and clinical instruction related to the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. It will provide knowledge commensurate with standards of care that have been developing in the academic communities around the world over the last 3 decades. This course is designed to offer an overview for the practicing dentist that will connect the medical and dental aspects of TMD.

The course will give an overview of:

  • Anatomy related to TMD
  • OFP Clinical exam
  • Myogenous TMD
  • Joint mechanics
  • Classification of arthrogenous TMD
  • Management of TMD
  • Occlusion and TMD

Sherwin Arman, D.M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Sherwin Arman is the director of the orofacial pain program and continuing dental education program at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He joined the faculty as a lecturer in 2012 and also had a practice limited to Orofacial Pain. He is involved with the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Orofacial Pain. His interest is to promote Orofacial Pain education to healthcare providers and students as well as the integration of Orofacial Pain education into dental education curricula.
