Being Moral and Professional are Better Than Talking About Ethics

October 12 @ 8:30 am 1:00 pm PDT

The American College of Dentists conducted a multi-year study of how dentists actually behave in situations where professional issues are at stake. [Ethics Report: The New Professionalism, available from Amazon.]

A summary will be presented of the major findings. A distinction will be made between the ethics of judgment and the ethics of justification and the morality of engagement and moral leadership. The latter lead to moral behavior and professionalism. Ways will be explored for moving away from talking about theory toward doing good for oral health.

Learning Objectives: Define and identify examples of the ethics of judgement and justification and the morality of professional engagement and leadership. Discuss current situations in dental practice that offer opportunities for professional improvement. Craft and use language scripts that promote morality.
