Nominations for the inaugural Public Health Leadership Award open April 1 – May 31.
The award, created in partnership with Henry Schein Cares, epitomizes the Foundation’s combined commitment to give back to dentistry and communities it serves.
The purpose is to recognize California dentists who have distinguished themselves through a lifetime of outstanding, unselfish leadership and contributions in the field of dental public health and public policy.
Eligible nominees must:
- Hold a California dental license (active or retired) or have completed an accredited Dental Public Health residency program.
- Have at least 15 years of work in a public health dentistry setting in one of the following roles: public service, academic setting, or practice in a dental health professional shortage area.
The nominator must be either a CDA member or an executive director for a local dental society. Nominators are limited to one nomination per award cycle.

Accepting Nominations
The CDA Foundation accepts online nominations from April 1 to May 31 each year.
Deadline extended: Submit a nomination by June 5.
Recipients
Jared Fine, DDS
Jared Fine, DDS, is recognized as a champion for public health, dedicating over 50 years of service towards education, access to care and health equity for every community. Dr. Fine is a role model for outstanding leadership in his profession, advocating for numerous disease prevention and children’s oral health programs and as an ambassador of the Dental Transformation Initiative in Alameda County.
For many of these programs, Dr. Fine worked long beyond contracted hours and assigned duties, often participating as a volunteer or private citizen while remaining dedicated to his other professional endeavors. His contributions and advocacy efforts on behalf of the larger dental community embody the core spirit of the Public Health Leadership Award.
