SUMMARY:Dental STEM Visa Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:Paths to practicing dentistry in the U.S. are complex. Let’s talk about it. \n\n\n\nCDA has long advocated for equity and access in healthcare—including dentists’ education and growth opportunities. We want to better understand dental students’ experiences with visas and the realities they face in school\, post-graduate residencies and their careers. Personal stories and exploration of the resource gaps can help shine a light on how new paths\, such as extended OPT under STEM\, could help others and what CDA’s role may be.  While there are other visa paths for international dental students and residents\, open dialogues can increase understanding of the difference additional OPT time can make. \n\n\n\nOur upcoming town hall will present an overview of H-1B fees and green card policy in the current federal landscape\, past policy on STEM visa expansion and planned advocacy efforts. Panelists will explore: \n\n\n\n\nPersonal visa stories\n\n\n\nHelpful and needed resources\n\n\n\nAdvocacy opportunities\n\n\n\nThe impact of extended STEM OPT

SUMMARY:Implant Crowns Are Not Teeth: Rethinking the Biological Connection
DESCRIPTION:Many clinicians approach implant crowns as direct replacements for teeth—but this mindset can lead to esthetic compromises\, biomechanical failures\, and long-term complications. In this compelling two-hour online course\, you’ll learn why implant restorations require a fundamentally different design approach. Dr. Stevenson\, an expert in evidence-based restorative protocols\, will guide you through the critical differences between tooth-borne and implant-supported prostheses\, and how to select the right abutment\, impression technique\, and material for each case. Whether you’re placing single units or restoring full arches\, this course will help you make biologically sound decisions that protect your patient’s investment—and your reputation.Learning Objectives:At the conclusion of this course\, participants will be able to:1. Evaluate how biological and biomechanical differences between teeth and implants influence restorative planning and design.2. Apply clinical decision-making principles to select abutments\, retention methods\, and materials that enhance long-term implant success.3. Design a workflow for implant crown delivery that emphasizes esthetics\, occlusion\, and long-term stability.

SUMMARY:Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders: Screening\, Red Flags\, and When to Refer
DESCRIPTION:Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) can significantly influence craniofacial development\, orthodontic stability\, airway health\, and overall oral function. Dental professionals are often the first to observe signs of dysfunctional oral habits\, mouth breathing\, low tongue posture\, and atypical swallowing patterns\, yet many clinicians lack a systematic approach to screening and referral. \n\n\n\nThis course will review the etiology and clinical presentation of OMDs and provide practical screening strategies that can be incorporated into routine dental examinations.Participants will learn to identify red flags associated with airway compromise\, sleep-disordered breathing\, malocclusion\, and temporomandibular dysfunction.Guidance will also be provided on interdisciplinary collaboration and appropriate referral pathways.

SUMMARY:Cyber resilience and HIPAA compliance (Part 1 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:Cyberattacks and ransomware continue to threaten healthcare organizations of every size. These incidents can result in the theft of highly sensitive information\, putting your patients at increased risk of identity theft and fraud. Dental practices also suffer the financial impacts of forced appointment rescheduling and delayed claims processing. \n\n\n\nAs these targeted threats increase\, the U.S. Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights is focused on enforcing HIPAA Security Rule compliance. This rule establishes the minimum requirements necessary for the protection of electronic protected health information (PHI). \n\n\n\nDuring the first of our two-part webinar series on cybersecurity\, learn how to stay compliant with the OCR’s requirements and protect your patients’ sensitive health information. \n\n\n\nLearning objectives: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand how a risk analysis can help you mitigate information system vulnerabilities.\n\n\n\nLearn the necessary actions to strengthen your dental practice’s cyber resilience.\n\n\n\nKnow where to look for HIPAA compliance assistance.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCheck back soon for more information.

DESCRIPTION:This webinar explores internal derangement of the articular disk within the temporomandibular joint AND dysfunction in the muscles that surround and support the mandible\, as well as how these issues can (and often do) overlap. This webinar also reviews the anatomy of the joint and discuss how the various anatomical structures contribute to specific symptoms such as ear pain\, pain behind the eye\, headaches\, jaw pain\, neck pain\, popping/clicking and catching or actual locking of the joint. Diagnosis is broken down into a Specific treatment of these various symptoms are also reviewed as well as which patients experience this most commonly and why. Relation of TMJ disorders/TMD to tongue tie\, 4 bicuspid extraction/retraction orthodontia\, and sleep apnea will also be discussed.Objectives:1. Know which questions to ask and which signs/symptoms to look for to be able to discriminate between muscles and joint pathologies.2. Understand how to diagnose TMJ/TMD correctly.3. Understand what’s happening in the muscles/joints to cause specific symptoms4. Understand connection of TMJ disorders to sleep apnea\, bite\, and tongue tieKnow which cases to treat and which to refer
