The dental care of this population requires specific knowledge\, not only of special dental therapies\, but more importantly\, a formal algorithm to safely manage and treat complex and medically fragile patients.Occlusion for the Advanced General Practice:Occlusion is the great “common denominator” in clinical dentistry. Occlusion affects the success or failure in nearly every discipline including esthetic dentistry\, restorative dentistry\, implant dentistry\, periodontics\, and orthodontics. DESCRIPTION:Description There is strong evidence that allied dental personnel increase productivity of dental offices and clinics. In 2010\, via AB 2637\, California Registered Dental Assistants in Extended Functions (RDAEF) received additional restorative functions\, allowable under the direct supervision of a dentist.These functions include:Conduct preliminary evaluation of the patient’s oral health\, including (but not limited to) charting\, intraoral and extra-oral evaluation of soft tissue\, classifying occlusion\, and myofunctional evaluation.Perform oral health assessments in school-based\, community health project settings under the direction of a dentist\, registered dental hygienist\, or registered dental hygienist in alternative practice.Size and fit endodontic master points and accessory points.Cement endodontic master points and accessory points.Take final impressions for tooth-borne removable prosthesis.Place\, contour\, finish\, and adjust all direct restorations.Polish and contour existing amalgam restorations.Adjust and cement permanent indirect restorations.Perform cord retraction of gingiva for impression procedures.Take final impressions for permanent indirect restorations.One viable alternative for increasing production and controlling office overhead while maintaining quality of care – is the utilization of the RDAEF2 in practice. There are currently only 2\,082 licensed RDAEFs in the entire state of California. There are 35\,078 licensed DDS in California. Each dentist can employ three (3) RDAEFs in practice. During the course\, you will hear from dentists who are utilizing RDAEFs in practice and they will share the impact the RDAEF has had on their practice.The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth knowledge of the Loma Linda University RDAEF program and details of the extensive training that the students receive. You will have an opportunity to see the quality of work that these students have produced.At the end of the course\, dentists will be informed on how to evaluate the direct restorations placed by the RDAEFs in their practice.

SUMMARY:Principles and Innovations in Removable Partial\, and Complete Denture Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Description SynopsisRemovable partial dentures and complete dentures are still an option for patients who may have limited resources\, or there is no better way to aid the patient. This course will review basic information on RPDs\, look at each component of the appliance and their function. We will look at how to use implants to stabilize the RPD and make the prosthesis clasp free. There is often confusion on the need for a separate impression for the distal extension case. This is not necessary\, and we will review how to do a single impression for the distal extension RPD. We will look at new materials on the market\, how effective are they\, how do they hold up with time\, and how are they constructed. We will review digital imaging for dental implants and the fabrication and printing of surgical guides. The placement of immediate dentures can often be challenging\, Dr. Hansen has over thirty years of experience in both the surgery and the placement of conventional immediate dentures.ObjectivesWe will look at how to predictably fabricate and place the immediate denture. We will review both the surgical aspect and the prosthodontic aspect.Review basic principles of RPDs. We will review clasp design\, use of indirect retainers\, releasing clasps\, and basic design philosophy.New materials in RPD construction. DESCRIPTION:You would have to be living in a cave not to notice the increase in autoimmune diseases recently. There are currently over 100 autoimmune diseases and experts think those are only the tip of the iceberg. Some of these diseases directly impact the oral cavity in a significant\, sometimes devastating\, way.  In addition\, medications used to treat these conditions have important side effects and interactions the dental team needs to understand in order to provide safe and effective care for these patients. Dr. Huffines will begin with an easy-to-understand update on how our amazing immune system works. Then we will explore what causes the body’s immune system to attack itself – autoimmune disease. Some of the most important autoimmune diseases that impact the oral cavity or the delivery of dental care will be described. SUMMARY:HYBRID COURSE - Management and Utilization of the RDAEF
DESCRIPTION:There is strong evidence that allied dental personnel increase productivity of dental offices and clinics. In 2010\, via AB 2637\, California Registered Dental Assistants in Extended Functions (RDAEF) received additional restorative functions\, allowable under the direct supervision of a dentist. These functions include: \n\n\n\nConduct preliminary evaluation of the patient’s oral health\, including (but not limited to) charting\, intraoral and extra-oral evaluation of soft tissue\, classifying occlusion\, and myofunctional evaluation.Perform oral health assessments in school-based\, community health project settings under the direction of a dentist\, registered dental hygienist\, or registered dental hygienist in alternative practice. \n\n\n\n\nSize and fit endodontic master points and accessory points.\n\n\n\nCement endodontic master points and accessory points.\n\n\n\nTake final Impressions for tooth-borne removable prosthesis.\n\n\n\nPlace\, contour\, finish\, and adjust all direct restorations.\n\n\n\nPolish and contour existing amalgam restorations.\n\n\n\nAdjust and cement permanent indirect restorations.\n\n\n\nPerform cord retraction of gingiva for impression procedures.\n\n\n\nTake final impressions for permanent indirect restorations.\n\n\n\n\nOne viable alternative for increasing production and controlling office overhead while maintaining quality of care – is the utilization of the RDAEF2 in practice. There are currently only 1\,756 licensed RDAEFs in the entire state of California. There are 34\,619 licensed DDS in California. Each dentist can employ three (3) RDAEFs in practice. During the course\, you will hear from dentists who are utilizing RDAEFs in practice and they will share the impact the RDAEF has had on their practice. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth knowledge of the Loma Linda University RDAEF program and details of the extensive training that the students receive. You will have an opportunity to see the quality of work that these students have produced. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the course\, dentists will be informed on how to evaluate the direct restorations placed by the RDAEFs in their practice. \n\n\n\nObjectives: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the California laws and regulations pertaining to the scope of duties and utilization of the RDAEF2 in practice\n\n\n\nGain an in-depth knowledge of the RDAEF curriculum\n\n\n\nLearn from other dentists how the RDAEF2 has improved their dental practices\n\n\n\nLearn how stress can be reduced and moral is raised by the utilization of the RDAEF2\n\n\n\nLearn how to incorporate the RDAEF2 into your practice\n\n\n\nSee images of the outstanding work performed by the RDAEF students\n\n\n\nBe calibrated to perform evaluations of restorations performed by the RDAEF2 in your practice
