Tips on artistically performing anterior composite restorations

Newton Fahl, DDS, MS, who is a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, director of the Fahl Center and maintains a private practice in Curitiba, Brazil, lectured on anterior composite restorations at CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry on Sept. 4.

Specifically, he taught attendees how to “artistically” perform esthetic direct anterior composite restorations based on principles of emulating proper form, color and function. He offered dentists different aspects related to the diagnosis, treatment planning and execution of such restorations, including resin selection and polishing techniques.

Below, Fahl lays out some basic tips on what dentists need to do to carry out "superb" composite work.

CDA Presents featured approximately 150 lectures and workshops and an exhibit hall packed with more than 375 companies spotlighting the latest dental products. The convention is one of the most anticipated dental meetings in the U.S. It’s the place to discover the latest innovations in dentistry. Attendees explored 80,000 square feet of dental innovation in the Moscone Center.

For members planning to attend CDA Presents in Anaheim April 30 to May 2, registration will open in the coming months at cdapresents.com. Dentists should pay close attention to their mail in December because the Preliminary Program for CDA Presents  in Anaheim will be included in that issue of the Journal of California Dental Association
