Sponsors contribute to CDA Cares Bakersfield

Three key sponsors have stepped up to support the next CDA Cares set for Oct. 6–7 at the Kern County Fairgrounds in Bakersfield. Henry Schein Dental and Western Dental are longtime supporters of CDA Cares, contributing $50,000 pledges, a volunteer workforce and equipment and supplies for the events. Patterson Dental contributed equipment and support staff valued at $50,000 to CDA Cares San Mateo and stepped up again with the same pledge to help ensure the Bakersfield clinic is successful.

CDA Cares provides fillings, extractions, cleanings, limited dentures, anterior root canals, oral health education and resources for dental care twice annually in communities throughout the state. In addition to providing care to approximately 2,000 people at each clinic, CDA Cares educates the public and policymakers about the importance of oral health and the need for an adequately funded dental safety net, including a Denti-Cal program that works.

To date, more than 22,000 people have benefited from $18 million in dental services provided by CDA Cares thanks to the support of community members like Henry Schein, Western Dental and Patterson Dental.

Henry Schein Cares embodies corporate citizenship

The goal of Henry Schein Cares, the global corporate social responsibility program of Henry Schein Dental, is to "help health happen" for society as a whole. Supporting CDA Cares aligns with this goal and with the objectives of Henry Schein Dental, which has pursued the ideal of “doing well by doing good” for more than 85 years.

“Henry Schein founded Henry Schein Dental in 1932 based on the belief that we can fulfill our responsibilities as a corporate citizen by giving back to the industries and communities we serve,” said Glenn Showgren, California zone general manager. “This spirit of corporate citizenship is exemplified through Henry Schein Cares.”

Henry Schein connects supplier partners to more than one million health care providers who care for patients in countries throughout the world. Their products and services are integral to helping individual dental, animal health and medical practitioners to improve the health and well-being of their patients and collectively address some of the world's most pressing health care issues, Showgren said.

Along with Henry Schein’s financial pledge of support for CDA Cares Bakersfield, “Team Schein” members will also donate their time and services at the event.

Western Dental serves the underserved

Western Dental understands the challenges patients face in finding access to care. With an almost century-long history of serving the underserved in their now 160 offices located throughout California, sponsoring CDA Cares through financial contributions and a volunteer workforce allows Western Dental to give back to communities. The Bakersfield clinic is the eighth CDA Cares that Western Dental has sponsored.

As the largest provider of Denti-Cal services in California, Western Dental’s mission to provide access to affordable, high-quality care aligns with CDA Cares’ goals of impacting lives, restoring dignity and creating smiles, says Chief Dental Officer John Luther, DDS.

“CDA Cares, through dental professionals volunteering their time, delivers needed services to vulnerable Californians free of charge,” he said. “Western Dental strongly supports CDA Cares and encourages its dentists and dental teams to participate in these life-changing events.”

Western Dental teams travel from around California to volunteer at CDA Cares. Team members Audrey Nguyen, DDS, Jeykong Kim, DDS, and dental assistants Jovina Evangelista and Alondra Cruz of Watsonville, who volunteered at CDA Cares San Mateo in April, said they “tremendously enjoyed” the event and the opportunity to provide outreach care to their neighbors in need.

Patterson Dental partnerships help create healthier communities

Patterson Foundation has been a Silver Sponsor at the $5,000 level at every event since CDA Cares started in 2012, and local Patterson Dental teams have volunteered as equipment techs and worked in central supply and community support at all the clinics. Patterson Dental’s management team stepped up its support at CDA Cares San Mateo in April by donating the use of three brand-new Panorex machines along with support staff, which moved them to the Presenting Sponsor level of $50,000, and are contributing the same support for the Bakersfield clinic.
