New dentists can launch their career with CDA program

Dentistry has changed a lot in recent years due to shifts in the dental insurance marketplace and a variety of other factors.

Dentists are faced with many career paths, especially in the first 10 years of practice. Because of this, today’s new dentists need to have the necessary business knowledge that will help set their career on the right path. To help with this, CDA is hosting a New Dentist Career Launch from July 9-11 at the CDA headquarters (1201 K Street, Sacramento).

The three-day program will provide extensive and intense training intended to increase a dentist’s understanding of the nuances of a career in dentistry and guide them toward achieving professional success.

"The New Dentist Career Launch is three days of introspection and analysis designed to help you identify and plan for the dental profession of your dreams, whatever that may be,” said Robyn Thomason, director, CDA Practice Support. “The goal will be to emphasize the most critical career-driving subjects to help new dentists thrive.”

Attendees will hear from industry experts on valuable skills such as how to:

  • reduce student loan debt and meet financial goals;
  • contract and lease negotiation strategies for practice start-up or acquisition;
  • understand their credit and personal financial resume; and
  • create a professional vision statement and strategic plan

Each attendee will take the 5 Dynamics online assessment (a proven way of applying one's strengths to the maximum) and be given a thorough analysis of how to apply it to critical career-driving decisions.

The curriculum for the program was developed by a workgroup made up of faculty and staff from the six dental schools, volunteer dentists from the Committee on the New Dentist, Board of Managers, Council on Membership and the Practice Support Center task force, along with industry experts specializing in legal, financial and demographic issues surrounding dentists.

Registration for the three-day program includes, a two-night hotel reservation, breakfast and lunch for all three days, an evening reception and The 5 Dynamics assessment tool. All other expenses, including the cost of travel, are the responsibility of the attendee.
