Managing dental conditions of the boomer generation

Samuel B. Low, DDS, MS, MEd, recently spoke to CDA Update staff about how to manage patients of the boomer generation. Low, who is professor emeritus at the University of Florida and associate faculty at The Pankey Institute, said dentists need to understand who the boomer generation is, how they like to pay for services, the chronic inflammatory diseases they deal with and how their expectations for treatment are managed.

Low led a lecture at CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in San Francisco that reviewed chronic inflammation with periodontitis, xerostomia and root caries from diagnosis to management for a lifetime and the generational characteristics of the over-60 age group with emphasis on understanding the population to enhance motivational interviewing and gain positive case acceptance.

Low also is past president of the American Academy of Periodontology. He will be lecturing again at CDA Presents in Anaheim on May 12-14, 2016.
