SUMMARY:Autoimmune Disease and Dentistry
DESCRIPTION:You would have to be living in a cave not to notice the increase in autoimmune diseases recently. There are currently over 100 autoimmune diseases and experts think those are only the tip of the iceberg. Some of these diseases directly impact the oral cavity in a significant\, sometimes devastating\, way.  In addition\, medications used to treat these conditions have important side effects and interactions the dental team needs to understand in order to provide safe and effective care for these patients. Dr. Huffines will begin with an easy-to-understand update on how our amazing immune system works. Then we will explore what causes the body’s immune system to attack itself – autoimmune disease. Some of the most important autoimmune diseases that impact the oral cavity or the delivery of dental care will be described. You may be shocked to find out what common diseases have an autoimmune component. Are the Autoimmune Diets a gimmick or are some scientifically valid? The dental implications of Post-COVID Syndrome\, a largely autoimmune condition affecting over 16 million in the United States\, will be covered in detail. Finally\, attendees will be given specific recommendations on how to answer a medical consult requesting dental clearance before patients begin certain chemotherapeutic interventions. Join Dr. Huffines for a comprehensive overview of this important and rapidly developing dental field.

SUMMARY:OSHA\, Infection Control and CDPA
DESCRIPTION:OSHA / Infection Control with Eiman Rahnama: In the United States\, the government agency responsible for worker safety is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration otherwise known as OSHA. \n\n\n\nOSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens standard is a federal OSHA regulation (29 CFR 1910.1030) that prescribes safeguards to protect staff against health hazards from exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials and to reduce their risk from this exposure. In some states\, it has been mandated that all Medical and Dental Staff do Aerosol Transmitted Diseases (ATD) training once a year to prevent the spread of ATDs. \n\n\n\nCDPA with Levi Barlavi: This course will satisfy the Category I Course requirement for the California Dental Practice Act. Upon completion of this course\, the attendee will have a comprehensive understanding of the laws of the Dental Practice Act. The course will review the laws of the Dental Practice Act and will review the numerous dental board cases applying such laws. The review of the laws and the cases shall give the attendee a better understanding of how the laws of the Dental Practice Act and their individual actions can impact their ability to practice dentistry in the state of California. In addition\, this course will review all recent changes in the laws of the Dental Practice Act.

SUMMARY:The Synergistic Role of CBCT and 2D Imaging in Pathology Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: A Case-Based Review
DESCRIPTION:This course is an overview of the typical anatomical structures visualized in a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan; it also covers variations of normal anatomy and the pathological processes that appear in a 3D scan. Radiographic presentation of significant pathologies\, including malignancies with clinical cases\, is discussed. A comprehensive discussion on soft tissue calcifications that may be seen in a CBCT scan and strategies to diagnose them radiographically is provided. Learning Objectives: Through reviewing clinical cases become familiar with radiographic signs of important pathologies in CBCT images. Be able to recognize the cases where CBCT can add diagnostic value to accurate diagnosis of the case (Selection criteria). Be able to describe common radiographic findings associated with different jaw pathosis including cystic\, neoplastic\, fibro-osseous\, and more. Be able to diagnose common soft tissue radiopacities in 2D and 3D images.
