SUMMARY:Infection Control\, OSHA\, & California Dental Practice Act – December 2024
DESCRIPTION:Topics covered will include: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify the Specific Safety Plans Required by OSHA\n\n\n\nUnderstand What the Infection Control Regulations Are for California\n\n\n\nIdentify Common Errors With Infection Control and Safety This course will fulfill important requirements all in one day!\n\n\n\n\nAll licensed dental professionals are required by the Dental Board of California to take an infection control class and a California Dental Practice class biennially for licensure renewal. However\, let us not forget that Cal/OSHA has annual training requirements for personnel who work in an environment that have a risk of occupational exposure to blood- borne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals. Cal/OSHA requires all dental professionals to take an annual course in blood-borne pathogen training\, plus an annual hazard communication training program. The program offers 6 hours/6 C.E. of up-to-date information in an interactive\, streamlined presentation. The course satisfies requirements for license renewal and for Cal/OSHA regulations. Qualifies for C.E. Credit – Core Course. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeslie Canham\, CDA\, RDA\, CDIPC\, CSP

SUMMARY:Advanced Education for Excellence in Dental Sleep Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Description The interest in Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) has grown and involves not only oral appliances for Sleep Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD)\, such as sleep apnea and snoring\, but also involves sleep bruxism\, orofacial pain including TMD and related medical conditions. The dentist has a major role in the recognition and management of patients with these conditions. In addition\, the guidelines from the American Dental Association (ADA) indicate that the dentist should be trained to recognize\, facilitate the diagnosis of sleep apnea\, and be well versed in oral appliance therapy.Course lectures are designed to review the aspects of sleep that are relevant to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. This course includes the opportunity to fabricate and deliver an oral appliance for the participant. This is not required to take part in the course\, but highly recommended**.This course provides the didactic and clinical knowledge for the dentist to become a productive and successful participant in the management of SRBD\, with the focus primarily on patients within their existing practice. The course is designed to cover all aspects of sleep medicine and sleep disorders through lectures from various specialists. The lectures are designed to review all aspects of sleep that are relative to the practicing dentist and are reinforced with demonstration as well as hands-on experience in the clinic. This involves the examination process\, the process of obtaining a bite registration for fabrication of an oral appliance and the delivery of the oral appliance. The lectures and discussion will involve how the dentist can be a productive and successful participant in the management of sleep disorders\, and specifically SRBD. The expanding definition of DSM will be explored\, as this involves sleep bruxism and all aspects of orofacial pain. This course is designed such that the participant will be optimally competent and be considered qualified in the use of oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea and snoring. This is of particular importance given that Orofacial Pain is now a dental specialty that also involves sleep. Anyone practicing DSM needs to be able to also practice at the same standard of care equivalent to a specialist\, and this course is intended to accomplish this.Event Session InformationSessions Session #1 Start Date: October 25\, 2024Session #1 Start Time: 8:00 AMSession #1 End Date: October 26\, 2024Session #1 End Time: 1:00 PMSession #2 Start Date: November 1-2\, 2024Session #2 Start Time: 8:00 AMSession #2 End Date: November 1-2\, 2024Session #2 End Time: 12:00 PMSession #3 Start Date: December 6\, 2024Session #3 Start Time: 8:30 AMSession #3 End Date: December 7\, 2024Session #3 End Time: 1:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther cost information\, if applicable. **Note: Lab fees for appliance fabrication will be the responsibility of theattendeeEvent Website https://dentistry.ucla.edu/course/2544Location UCLA School of Dentistry

SUMMARY:Ceramic Dental Implants for the Everyday Practice
DESCRIPTION:Description Virtual Course Description:Ceramic dental implants are a relatively new frontier in dental implantology. However\, given the increased demand by patients and the certain advantages that ceramic implants have over their titanium counterparts\, the field is growing rapidly. Ceramic implants have equal osseointegration to titanium\, superior mucointegration\, better esthetics and minimal to no peri-implantitis in long term studies. This course will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of ceramic implants\, the research supporting long term success rates\, surgical and restorative protocols\, and start to finish case studies highlighting ceramic dental implants.Course objectives:– Learn the advantages and disadvantages of ceramic implants– Gain understanding of zirconia as a material for dental implants– Identify patients who can benefit from ceramic implant treatment– Learn the surgical and prosthetic protocols– Prescribe\, plan and execute ceramic implant treatment from start to finish

SUMMARY:Medical Emergency Management in a Dental Setting
DESCRIPTION:Description As part of our daily practice\, we assess and treat dental patients of different ages and medical backgrounds. Despite our best efforts\, medical emergencies in a dental setting are rare and can and will occur. In this lecture\, Dr. Alanes will discuss these emergencies and their etiologies and teach providers how to identify and treat them promptly and appropriately. Each member of the dental practice plays a crucial role in this emergent situation to provide the best possible care. In this presentation\, Dr. Alanes will explain ways to communicate openly\, assign responsibilities\, and rehearse and document the incident effectively. By understanding emergencies and how these can be handled\, the treating dentist can ensure the safety of their patients as well as enhance their office’s awareness.

SUMMARY:Principles and Innovations in Removable Partial\, and Complete Denture Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Description SynopsisRemovable partial dentures and complete dentures are still an option for patients who may have limited resources\, or there is no better way to aid the patient. This course will review basic information on RPDs\, look at each component of the appliance and their function. We will look at how to use implants to stabilize the RPD and make the prosthesis clasp free. There is often confusion on the need for a separate impression for the distal extension case. This is not necessary\, and we will review how to do a single impression for the distal extension RPD. We will look at new materials on the market\, how effective are they\, how do they hold up with time\, and how are they constructed. We will review digital imaging for dental implants and the fabrication and printing of surgical guides. The placement of immediate dentures can often be challenging\, Dr. Hansen has over thirty years of experience in both the surgery and the placement of conventional immediate dentures.ObjectivesWe will look at how to predictably fabricate and place the immediate denture. SUMMARY:Comprehensive Overview of TMD and Orofacial Pain
