TDIC has announced it has signed a letter of intent to purchase three dentist insurance businesses from an Oregon-based company, Moda. The acquisition will allow TDIC to expand its exceptional service and products to more than 4,500 additional policyholders, further strengthening TDIC with a broader premium base.

Time to register for CURES

All prescribers in California with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registrations are required to register by July 1 to access California’s prescription drug monitoring program, known as CURES 2.0 (Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System). It's Oral Cancer Awareness Month

CDA reminds dentists and the public that April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month and encourages dental practices to spread the word about how to prevent oral cancer. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, each year in the United States, more than 21,000 men and 9,000 women are diagnosed with oral cancer. The two most common pathways by which people develop oral cancer are through tobacco and alcohol use and through exposure to the human papillomavirus (HPV) — the same virus responsible for the majority of cervical cancers in women.
FDA calls for powdered exam gloves ban

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to ban the use of most powdered gloves, including powdered surgeon’s gloves, powdered patient examination gloves and absorbable powder for lubricating a surgeon’s glove.

Dentists must give timely practice updates

Beginning July 1, a new law will take effect requiring dental plans to comply with uniform standards and provide timely updates (practice address, license number, etc.) to their provider directories. The intent of the new law, SB 137, is to provide patients with more accurate and complete information as to which providers are participating in the plan's provider network.

Deadline near for tobacco tax signatures

Dentists interested in signing petitions to qualify a ballot measure to increase the state's tobacco tax by $2 should contact their local components right away. CDA delivered petition forms to all local components, and those signatures must be returned to CDA by April 15.
Discrimination and harassment regulations amended

California’s Fair Employment and Housing Council adopted amendments to its Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) regulations effective April 1. These amendments, which generally apply to employers of five or more employees, require employers to develop and distribute antidiscrimination, antiharassment and complaint investigation policies.
Pregnancy disability poster changes effective immediately

Clarifying amendments to California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and California Family Rights Act (CFRA) regulations are in effect on April 1. Employers are required to post two new workplace notices as part of their responsibilities under both amended regulations.
