HRSA funding opportunity announced

The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is the source of multiple grants that support care to underserved populations and promote innovative and effective health care service delivery.  One of its recently announced funding opportunities, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part F Dental Reimbursement Program, has $9.2 million in available funding and anticipates awarding up to 50-60 grants specific to dentistry.

Dentists required to translate directions for dispensed drugs

Patients may request that the directions on the label of dispensed medication be translated. A new law that went into effect on Jan. 1 now requires that dentists who dispense medication oblige such requests if translated directions are available.

New law increases dentist obligations in legal cases

As a result of recently passed legislation, dental practices now have more of an obligation to make patient records available in legal cases. If an attorney at law or his or her representative presents a written authorization signed by an adult patient, the patient’s legal representative, a parent or guardian of a minor, or the heir or personal representative of a deceased patient, a dental practice must promptly make all of the patient’s records under its custody or control available for inspection and copying by the attorney or their representative.
Licensure renewal mailing contains incorrect information

Licensure renewal notices recently mailed by the Dental Board of California to dentists who need to renew their license provided the incorrect web address for online renewal. The new BreEZe online license renewal website is accessed at www.breeze.ca.gov, rather than the website provided in the notice.

State updates rule on portable X-ray equipment

CDA urges members to sign tobacco tax petition

The calls claim that dentists must register with the  California Department of Public Health as a "hazardous waste generator," or  that dental practices must comply with "new" regulations specifically for  pharmaceutical waste.
