Local Public Health Departments Orders Related to COVID-19, Flu

Below is a list of local public health department orders related to COVID-19 vaccination and testing and to mandatory influenza vaccination which affect dental practices within their respective jurisdiction.  Read your county’s order carefully to determine its applicability to your dental practice.

Los Angeles County, Health Care Worker COVID-19 Vaccination Order. The county influenza order does not include dental practices.

Requires workers at specified healthcare settings, including dental, to be fully vaccinated or else weekly test for COVID-19.
Order issued on Aug. 5, 2021 and updated Dec. 22, 2021 to require booster dose does not apply to dentistry.

Counties of Los Angeles and San Francisco, Cities of Berkeley and Pasadena Requires workers at specified healthcare settings, including dental, to be fully vaccinated or have a documented health or religious exemption.

Compliance dates:
Los Angeles - 11/30/2021
San Francisco - 10/13/2021
Berkeley - 9/10/2021
Pasadena - 9/30/2021

Counties of Los Angeles and San Francisco, City of Pasadena

Updated respective orders to require boosters for workers at specified healthcare settings, including dental.

As of 9/21/2022, have updated their orders to eliminate the requirement for weekly testing of unvaccinated healthcare workers.

Compliance date: 2/1/2022 or within 15 days of being booster eligible.
Santa Clara County Requires workers at specified settings to be fully vaccinated and to obtain booster when eligible. Medical and religious exemptions permitted.

Comply by 1/24/2022 for first shot, 3/21/2022 for full vaccination.

Cal/OSHA ETS No vaccination requirement but follows CDPH guidance for return-to-work guidance.
Federal    
Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Requires workers at specified healthcare settings to be fully vaccinated or have a documented health or religious exemption. Rule does not apply to private dental practices but does apply to dentists and other workers at hospitals, FQHCs and rural health clinics. Compliance date: 1/4/2022
