‘Simply treating a tooth is inadequate’ – Recipient of Student Loan Repayment Grant has visionary long-term goal

The CDA Foundation awarded Dr. Stone just over $103,000 in student loan repayment in exchange for her commitment to maintain an overall patient caseload of at least 30% Medi-Cal patients for at least two years in either a Dental Health Professional Shortage Area or an underserved worksite.

All California employers will begin paying minimum wage of at least $15.50 in January 2023

California’s minimum wage will rise again in January 2023 – to $15.50 for employers of every size. More than 30 California cities and counties have their own local ordinances that set the minimum wage even higher. The City of Los Angeles's Healthcare Workers Minimum Wage Ordinance does not apply to dental office settings.

California dental students advocate for dentistry, patients during Grassroots Advocacy Days

Student representatives from six California dental schools met earlier this year with state legislators to discuss critical issues affecting dentistry and oral health as part of  Grassroots Advocacy Days. The students highlighted solutions through state budget funding and CDA-sponsored legislation.

California dentists can earn C.E. in CDA’s new online course on opioid use disorder

California dentists can take a new online course that meets the requirements for opioid use disorder training for licensure. “Responsibilities and Requirements for Prescribing Controlled Substances (Schedule II Opioid Drugs),” is eligible for 2 units of C.E. and is available to CDA members for a substantially discounted price. 

California’s Specialty Dental Clinic Grant Program expected to open for applications in fall 2023

The Specialty Dental Clinic Grant Program, made possible through a $50 million state budgetary investment led by CDA and supported by a coalition of providers, dental schools, disability rights organizations and consumer advocates, is estimated to begin accepting applications in fall 2023. 
 

CDA Journal editorial about emotional understanding in the dental office receives William J. Gies Editorial Award

“Sad or Mad: Fear and Loss of Control in the Pandemic,” an editorial by Kerry K. Carney, DDS, CDE, that appeared in the April 2021 Journal of the California Dental Association, is the first-place recipient of the 2021 William J. Gies Editorial Award.
