There are currently no COVID-19 rapid tests with an approved Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for asymptomatic patients. Check back frequently and stay up to date with CDA communications to learn when a reliable COVID-19 rapid test is FDA approved and appropriate for use in dental offices.
CDA will also provide a sample informed consent form for patients to complete prior to testing.
Until then, learn more in this CDA resource about the types of COVID-19 testing, including what they do, their reliability and required processing times and whether they are approved for use in the dental office. Also included are FAQs about dentistry’s scope of practice and more. Please also refer to ADA’s Tips for Performing Waived Testing on page 8 of their Testing Toolkit.
