The CDA Foundation’s Board of Directors guide ongoing efforts to support dental professionals, reduce barriers to care and improve Californians’ oral health. It’s our pleasure to introduce you to the Board Secretary, Allen Wong, DDS.

As a faculty member at University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, Wong is deeply committed to education and leadership within the California dental community. He believes in the Foundation’s mission to improve oral health access to the disadvantaged, and especially enjoys the opportunity to work with new graduates and volunteers at CDA Cares events.

A long-time volunteer dentist at CDA Cares, Wong provided free care to many patients over the years before getting involved in CDA Foundation leadership. “The CDA CARES events are always gratifying,” he notes. One volunteer experience in particular stands out in his memory. “The first Larell denture I made was for someone who was really depressed and out of work. The result was an amazing transformation in him and me. Giving back not only teeth but dignity and having someone appreciate it – felt amazing.”

Wong has served the dental community in many capacities over the years. Other volunteer and leadership positions he has held include SFDS Dental Health Committee Chair and Board of Directors, AADMD President, SCDA Vice President, Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity Board Member and RAMS volunteer. Wong has also served dental missions in Cambodia, China, Philippines and Fiji.

When asked what he’d like to tell his peers about getting involved in the CDA Foundation’s efforts, Wong explained, “Our efforts are not just for those with low income, there are many individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities that are overlooked and undertreated. It is the ethical obligation to see patients without discrimination. This means self-driven continuing education to help give back to the community. Volunteer locally through dental societies or larger ones like CDA CARES.”
