Entries span all areas of dental practice, from employment practices to general business, and include a summary of the regulatory requirement, the compliance deadline and, where applicable, links to CDA or other resources to help members comply.

CDA regularly monitors and updates the page to ensure it contains significant regulatory requirements, including these upcoming deadlines:

  • Jan. 1, 2022: E-prescribing for all medications required with limited exceptions.
  • Jan. 26, 2022: C.E. completion deadline for individuals whose license expired March 2020-Sept. 2021.
  • March 28, 2022: C.E. completion deadline for individuals whose licenses expired in October 2021.
  • June 30, 2022: All employers with at least five full-time and part-time employees and who do not sponsor a retirement program must register for CalSavers.

The e-prescribing requirement, for example, states that “California prescribers are required to use electronic data prescribing for all prescriptions starting Jan. 1, 2022,” in compliance with state legislation signed into law in 2018. Dentists are directed to CDA Practice Support’s Prescribing & Dispensing Q&A for help getting started.

(Relatedly, CDA last week announced iCoreRx electronic prescribing software from CDA’s newest Endorsed Services Partner iCoreConnect. CDA members can purchase an iCoreRx subscription at a significant discount.)

Laws and regulations searchable by year

Regulatory requirements and their deadlines are organized in descending order by date and also by year, so members can search past years ― dating back to 2016 ― for regulations and how they might apply to their practice.

Laws that took effect in 2021 include, among others, the state order requiring COVID-19 vaccination or weekly testing for dental health care workers and a law that expanded Paid Family Leave benefits to employees with qualifying military family members.
