Dentists registered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration should be aware that the DEA is no longer sending renewal notices by U.S. Postal Service as of last June. Instead, registrants will receive several renewal notifications by email. The notifications will be emailed 60, 45, 30, 15 and five days prior to the registration expiration date.

The DEA will email renewal notices to the email address associated with the registrant. Dentists should confirm that the email address they have on file with the DEA is current and active to ensure timely renewal. The DEA states that it will reinstate expired registrations for one calendar month after the expiration date, but if registration is not renewed within one calendar month, the DEA will require a new application for registration.

Registrants can contact the DEA if they require a paper renewal application.
