Learning opportunities: CDA experts will discuss LGBTQ+ issues in dentistry, HIPAA compliance and more in San Jose Sept. 7-9

CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in San Jose September 7-9 will feature opportunities to learn from CDA’s experts and earn C.E. credit.

This fall at CDA’s three-day convention in San Jose, join CDA’s analysts in person as they moderate and participate in panel discussions about LGBTQ+ issues and the experiences of women in dentistry, and provide insight on HIPAA compliance and other practice management topics.

Here are just a few of the opportunities attendees will have to hear from CDA’s experts at the convention. You can sign up for these and other courses when you register to attend CDA Presents. For your convenience, some of these courses offer C.E. credit.

  • LGBTQ+ Issues in Dentistry Panel Discussion. Covering the complete spectrum of professional and clinical issues impacting LGBTQ+ dentists, team members and patients, panelists will discuss how office culture can impact a dentist’s or dental team member’s ability to feel safe and true to themselves. In addition, panelists will examine obstacles that LGBTQ+ patients face in maintaining health and how dentists can provide culturally competent dental care. | Friday, Sept. 8, 3:30-5 p.m.
  • Now + Next in Dentistry: Women in Dentistry Panel Discussion. This discussion will help you navigate the early years of your career as a woman in dentistry. Gain valuable guidance from a panel of women dentists who have chosen various paths and practice models as they discuss the current state of dentistry and where it is heading. | Friday, Sept. 8, 9 -10:30 a.m.
  • Optimizing Your Hiring and Onboarding Process to Reduce Employee Turnover and Avoid Risk. Finding and hiring the right people for the team are cited among dental practices’ top concerns today. This course will provide tips, cover employment laws and review tools you can use for best hiring and onboarding practices that will lead to more qualified candidates, better employees and lower turnover. | Thursday, Sept. 7, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Conflict Resolution. This interactive session will review common scenarios that lead to conflict within a dental practice and offer tools and techniques that prevent and resolve conflict. These techniques will support a culture of trust and open communication within your practice, encouraging retention of patients and dental team members. | Friday, Sept. 8, noon-1 p.m.
  • HIPAA and Privacy for the Dental Team. Covering the fundamentals of HIPAA and California privacy laws, this course will utilize common scenarios in dental practices to discuss compliance. CDA’s regulatory compliance analyst will explain the rules on using, disclosing and safeguarding patients’ protected health information, including through the responsible use of social media. | Saturday, Sept. 9, 8:30-10 a.m.
