A statement from CDA on recently shared N95 video

Dear CDA members,

The volunteer leadership and staff at CDA want to acknowledge and apologize for our mistake and insensitivity in publishing a video in late June that contained inappropriate references to race in the proper fitting of N95 masks.

Some statements in the video were offensive, and we were wrong to release this content that was shared July 1 with members through our CDA e-newsletter and website. Our actions were unacceptable, and we take full responsibility for our regrettable errors in the review process.

The video has been removed from our website and is no longer viewable through any CDA communication channel. In the back-to-practice section of cda.org, you will find proper mask fitting resources that have been vetted and reviewed thoroughly by the CDA Clinical Care Workgroup.

Addressing bias is a top priority for the association, and we understand that mistakes like this cannot happen again. We will work to earn your trust and respect as we advance our organizational training and adapt our protocols as needed in communication and education.

We are committed to learning from this event and more thoroughly reviewing the educational content and materials shared with our members and the community going forward.

Sincerely,

Peter DuBois
CDA Executive Director

Richard Nagy, DDS
CDA President
