Up to 1,500 businesses affected in ransomware attack targeting IT software management company

Several small to mid-sized businesses have been affected by a ransomware attack targeting Kaseya VSA, a software management company used widely by managed service providers that handle IT needs for companies in the health care sector, including many dental practices.

The ransomware attack occurred July 2 and affected up to 1,500 businesses, according to a Kaseya advisory. The advisory provides an overview of the ongoing investigation and Kaseya’s steps to work with managed service providers to prevent the spread of malware.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced the launch of a new U.S. government website that helps companies protect themselves against the rise in ransomware attacks. The site includes ransomware alerts, reports and resources from CISA and the FBI.
