Dr. Dugoni’s remarkable lifetime of service, leadership and achievement is the inspiration for the CDA Foundation’s Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award. The nomination process is now open.
The CDA Foundation is accepting nominations through March 31 for the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award, which recognizes individuals who contribute to the scholarly and creative activities of California dental students.
The late Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni championed a student-centered, caring, “humanistic” approach to dentistry that became a national model in dental education. A renowned leader in dental education, Dugoni held the position of dean of the school of dentistry at the University of the Pacific for 28 years, from 1978 to 2006.
In addition to his decades of inspiring countless dental students, residents, faculty and staff in his role as an educator, Dugoni also offered his leadership and expertise to dental colleagues in California and throughout the world. He served as president of the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the American Board of Orthodontics.
At the time of his death, Dugoni was one of only 30 living members globally of the FDI World Dental Federation’s List of Honour. He was the recipient of many other distinguished awards in recognition of his research and service in the field of dentistry, including the Distinguished Service Award from the American Dental Association and the American Dental Education Association (2000) and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor (2008).
Dugoni’s remarkable lifetime of service, leadership and achievement is the inspiration for CDA Foundation’s Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award. The award acknowledges and supports eligible faculty affiliated with the state’s dental schools for their exceptional leadership, innovation, collaboration, compassion, philanthropic spirit and integrity in dental education.
The CDA Foundation accepts nominations from CDA members ― including student members ― and California dental school faculty. Self-nominations are also welcome. You are encouraged to learn more about eligibility criteria and the nomination process when considering possible nominees.
