December Student Spotlight

December 02, 2021 1454

Quick Summary:

Every month, CDA spotlights a student from one of California's six dental schools. Andrew Zufall tells us why he's passionate about studying dentistry.

What has been your most memorable dental school moment or experience so far?

Conversations about life and dentistry with Dr. Scott Turchi stand out as something that I’ll remember long after graduation. I really appreciate his humor and wisdom.

What has been the most rewarding thing about working on patients?

I love when I fix an anterior tooth and then hand the patient a mirror. Their big smile when they see the tooth reminds me why I’m doing this whole dental school thing!

Has a current dental school professor made a positive impact on you?

Dr. Sahar Mirfarsi has had a huge impact on my dental education. Not only has she taught me a great deal about temporomandibular joint disorders, but she has also instilled an interest in the topic that I’ll take with me after dental school. I look forward to learning more from her so I can help my future patients who are suffering from TMJ pain.

What made you interested in dentistry?

Growing up with a dentist for a dad helped me see that dentistry was a great career, but working at a community clinic after undergrad allowed me to develop a passion for the profession. Getting to help patients live healthier, happier lives made going to dental school an easy choice!

What is your favorite comfort food?

Get me some Hawaiian pizza with EXTRA pineapple!

What’s your favorite guilty-pleasure movie or TV series?

It’s not a guilty pleasure because it’s amazing, but I’ve been loving Ted Lasso lately.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Ride bikes. Pavement, dirt, doesn’t matter. Get me on two wheels and I’m happy.

Why are you #cdaproud?

The pandemic has shown just how important organized dentistry is. CDA does a great job representing our profession at the state level.
