Quick Summary:

Dental professionals can now use qualifying recorded webinars as live continuing education under the California Department of Consumer Affair's latest waiver easing restrictions on internet-based C.E. training.

11/23/21 update: Waiver to be terminated Dec. 31, 2021

The California Department of Consumer Affairs on Nov. 22 announced that the waiver will be terminated Dec. 31, 2021. Read the details in the CDA article.

09/09/20: The Department of Consumer Affairs on Sept. 8 issued a waiver easing the restrictions on internet-based continuing education training for dental professionals.

Current regulations require licensees to obtain no more than 50% of their required continuing education units through non-live instruction. Under the new order, dental professionals can use recorded webinars as “live C.E.” as long as the courses are web-based and allow participants to interact with the instructor or presenter in real time.

The C.E. courses offered at the all-virtual CDA Presents the Art and Science of Dentistry Sept. 10-12 are considered eligible for credit under the waiver.

The new order does not affect the DCA’s Aug. 27 waiver extension giving licensed dentists, RDHs and RDAs until Feb. 27, 2021, to complete the required C.E. and testing for license renewal.
