CDA Foundation seeks applicants for student loan repayment grant of up to $250,000

May 05, 2022 1007

The weight of student loan debt can make a career in public or community health nearly impossible for new dentists. The CDA Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant program aims to encourage recipients to care for the underserved. Applications are now being accepted.

Today’s dental students live with a reality that has a strange dichotomy. While the employment outlook for dentists remains steady, a degree in dentistry is one of the most expensive for students to get. Most dental students rely on loans to finance their education. According to the American Dental Education Association, the average dental school debt for the class of 2020 was $304,824.

The weight of student loan debt can make a career in public or community health nearly impossible for new dentists. Due to their debt burden, many are forced to choose higher paying positions in the private sector. A lack of available, qualified providers contributes to the existing crisis of care for the underserved.

The CDA Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant program was designed to immediately reduce barriers to access oral health care services in targeted underserved communities and populations

Grant awards up to $50K per year over five years

Recipients of the Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant are awarded up to $50,000 per year for a maximum of $250,000 over five years toward educational debt in exchange for a commitment to care for the underserved.

One deserving California dental student will be selected for this life-changing means to provide their skills where they are most needed. In addition, the individual chosen as runner-up is awarded The Webb Family Grant. That grant provides an annual award of $5,000 toward education expenses. Often, it’s the difference that makes the impossible possible.
