After evaluating current public health guidance related to COVID-19 and the organization of large-scale events in California and San Francisco County, the California Dental Association has made the difficult decision to cancel its continuing education convention, CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry, which was scheduled to take place Sept. 10-12 in San Francisco.

The health and safety of the greater dental community is always CDA’s highest priority. CDA has supported members throughout the pandemic and will continue to transition many programs to adapt to the COVID-19 environment while meeting dentists’ current and evolving needs.

More than 20,000 dentists, dental team members and dental students plus hundreds of exhibiting companies attend CDA Presents each spring and fall. CDA understands how greatly the dental community values the events and is already at work developing innovative learning and networking opportunities for dentists and their teams, including a virtual C.E. event with a virtual exhibit hall to be held this fall.

Continuing education options for dentists

Details about the virtual event will be shared soon, but dentists and their teams can take advantage of the following C.E. options available to them right now:

  • C.E. courses are available through CDA’s online learning platform, Brightbox. CDA members may access courses by logging in to their cda.org accounts. Each staff member will need an individual account login to enroll.
  • Fees are waived through June 30 for courses required by the Dental Board of California.
  • Courses from CDA Presents Webinar Week held in May are offered on-demand at no cost through July 30 with self-study C.E. credit available.
  • The Dentists Insurance Company waived the fee for its current Risk Management seminar, which is offered online.
  • Audio recordings of courses offered at the Anaheim 2019 convention are available at no charge for CDA members and their teams through June 30. To be eligible for course credit, attendees must submit a C.E. summary.

Refunds and credits for exhibitors

All booth fees will be refunded to exhibitors or credited to future CDA convention booths or virtual events. Exhibitors can choose how they’d like booth fees to be refunded or credited:

  • Request to have all booth fees refunded within 60 days. Refunds will be issued in the original form of payment or by check if previous credit was applied.
  • Apply booth fees toward a booth at CDA’s May 2021 convention in Anaheim.
  • Apply booth fees toward a booth at CDA’s Sept. 2021 convention in San Francisco.
  • Apply the booth fee credit toward virtual exhibit hall opportunities (details on CDA’s virtual C.E. event in the fall are forthcoming).

Exhibitors can request their refund or credit by emailing exhibitorinfo@cda.org and should allow 60 days to process refunds. If CDA does not receive a request for a refund within 60 days, CDA will automatically issue a refund.

New opportunities ahead, COVID-19 resources for dentists

Flexible, digital learning environments will bring new and exciting opportunities to the dental community, and CDA looks forward to sharing more details about the C.E. courses and exhibitor demos and engagement planned for the fall.
