License exam waiver grants RDAs, RDAEFs additional time to complete examination requirements

Applications that are deemed abandoned between June 2 and Aug. 1 due to the applicant’s failure to take the licensing examination now have two years and six months from the date the application was received by the Dental Board of California to take the exam.  

Registered dental assistants and registered dental assistants in extended functions who are applying for licensure in California now have additional time to complete their examination requirements.  

The Department of Consumer Affairs on June 3 approved a new waiver that grants an extension to RDAs and RDAEFs whose clinical examinations have been delayed as a result of the pandemic. 

Applications that are deemed abandoned between June 2 and Aug. 1 due to the applicant’s failure to take the licensing examination now have two years and six months from the date the application was received by the Dental Board of California to take the exam.  

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s March 4 state-of-emergency order gave the Department of Consumer Affairs the authority to waive statutory or regulatory professional licensing requirements as part of the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The order is effective immediately but may be amended as circumstances require.  

The DCA on June 3 also temporarily waived license-renewal requirements for dental professionals whose licenses expire between March 31, 2020, and July 31, 2021. Those professionals now have through Dec. 3 to complete the continuing education and take and pass the examinations required to renew their license.
