Dentists can now apply for financial assistance through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Enhanced Provider Relief Fund Payment Portal.

The agency announced today that the portal and application are available to dentists who may not have previously been eligible to receive funding through the Provider Relief Fund. Providers have until July 24 to apply for the program, which provides eligible dentists a reimbursement of 2 percent of their annual reported patient revenue.

HHS first launched the portal in June as a way to provide relief to Medicaid, Medicaid managed care and CHIP providers who are experiencing a loss in revenue or increased expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Provider Relief funds were allocated by the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act.

While the initial allocation of Provider Relief funding was only made available to hospitals and other health care providers directly responding to COVID-19, subsequent amounts of funding have been allocated to a broader series of Medicare and Medicaid providers including dentists. Since the inception of these funds, CDA has been aggressively advocating with congressional leaders that these funds needed to be available to all dentists affected by COVID-19.

CDA is pursuing further clarification of requirements for accessing these funds.
