California’s recent waiver allowing dentists to administer COVID-19 vaccines is generating publicity with numerous local news outlets across the state. The news comes after the Department of Consumer Affairs on Jan. 4 approved a public health emergency waiver that will allow dentists to help with the state’s vaccination efforts.
Several member dentists who serve in leadership with CDA spoke with the media outlets to emphasize that dental professionals are highly skilled in this area and eager to help.

"It makes sense because we give injections all day long for anesthesia, so we're well-trained and well-versed," said Dr. Natasha Lee, president of the San Francisco Dental Society. "Plus as dentists, we're all about prevention and community service, so it's another opportunity to take our skills where they are needed." – KTVU Fox 2
"All hands on deck. The more we can administer this vaccine, the better," said CDA President Dr. Judee Tippett-Whyte. "We have the capability to help our communities by providing the vaccine so that we can get more people vaccinated quickly to try and get immunity to this disease." – KFSN ABC 30
“Dentists are the experts in giving injections,” said Dr. Richard Nagy, who served as CDA president in 2020. “We give them in places that are rather challenging, inside the mouth where there is a tongue, where there are bone and ligament.” – KGTV ABC News 10
