CDA Presents and COVID-19

Important update about our Anaheim convention

Updated March 19, 2020

In light of the increasing concerns and latest public health guidance related to COVID-19, and with the approval by our dentist-led Board, the California Dental Association has made the difficult decision to cancel CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry this May.

The health and safety of our greater dental community is always CDA’s highest priority, and we did not make this decision lightly. It was informed by recent guidance issued by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to cancel all gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks, as well as Governor Newsom’s recent order on mass gatherings in California.

CDA created this event for you, our community. While we’re all disappointed by this news, we’re also here to support you as we navigate this change of plans.

Here’s what’s next for registrants

    • All registration fees will be automatically refunded by April 30. No action or request is needed from attendees.
    • For attendees who booked within CDA's room block, CDA will cancel hotel reservations, and no action is needed. If reservations were not made through CDA's room block, contact the hotel directly.
    • CDA is offering online and audio learning options at no cost to help members and their dental team participate in C.E.
    • We continue to prepare for our convention in San Francisco this fall, with plans to expand programming and make it our best event yet.

Options for continuing education

  • C.E. options are available now through our online learning platform at cda.org/brightbox. Members may access courses by logging in to their cda.org accounts. Please note, each of staff member will need an individual account login to enroll.
  • To support members and their dental teams, CDA is waiving fees for courses required by the California Dental Board through June 16, 2020.
  • The Dentists Insurance Company is also waiving fees for its current Risk Management seminar, which is offered online.
  • Audio recordings from courses offered at the Anaheim 2019 convention will be made available at no charge for CDA members and their teams. Please note, to be eligible for course credit, a C.E. summary submission process applies.

What we’re doing for our exhibitors

  • All booth fees will be refunded to exhibitors by April 30, or credited to future CDA convention booths if they choose.
  • For exhibitors who booked within CDA’s room block, CDA will cancel hotel reservations, and no action is needed. If reservations were not made through CDA’s room block, contact the hotel directly to cancel.

Exhibitors have a few choices for how they’d like booth fees to be refunded or credited:

  • Request to have all booth fees refunded by CDA within 60 days;
  • Apply Anaheim 2020 booth fees to a San Francisco 2020 booth,
with any overpayment refunded or credited to the next convention; or
  • Apply Anaheim 2020 booth fees to an Anaheim 2021 booth.

How exhibitors can facilitate a refund or credit

  • Email Sandy Frank or reply to the email you receive from CDA as soon as you’ve made your decision from the options above.
  • Please allow CDA 60 days to process refunds.
  • If we do not receive your response in 60 days, we will automatically issue a refund.
