The Content Strategy Manager leads the CDA shared services content team to manage the strategy, planning, creation, and implementation of all integrated marketing and communications content. This individual is responsible for inspiring and managing a diverse and talented team of five; consisting of writers and content creators, to oversee the creation, coordination, publishing, and amplification of compelling content for the CDA companies. The ideal candidate is creative, collaborative, process minded and highly organized. This role is accountable to balance big-picture content strategy with well-orchestrated tactical execution for traditional and digital channels. Manage the growth of emerging multi-media channels like video, webinines, blogs, podcasts, SEO, SEM, and community forums to drive optimal content relevancy and consumption by members. This role will work cross-functionally with the strategy and planning, digital and design teams in integrated marketing and communications, CDA public affairs for media relations, and the tdsc.com business unit marketing team. Management of content strategy and execution will span across the association, foundation, and the two for-profit subsidiaries, The Dentists Insurance Company and The Dentists Supply Company. This role will have some individual contribution along with management of the content team staff functions.

Essential Functions – must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Lead and develop content strategy and tactical execution for different brand, direct and awareness marketing campaigns across traditional and digital channels. This will involve working collaboratively with the marketing planning and strategy, design and digital teams, creative and UX director, internal business unit stakeholders and any external partners.
  • Lead the team responsible for the curation and production of content for the Update, CDA’s in-house magazine, the bi-weekly CDA company-wide member e-newsletter and the Executive Bulletin, a volunteer leadership e-newsletter.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Support team to manage, optimize and grow utilization of practice support content, tools and resources.
  • Develop a content calendar, set KPI’s, and oversee the monitoring and reporting of content performance.
  • Be an expert in understanding channel relevancy and appropriateness for segmented CDA member audiences.
  • Stay current and skilled in all traditional content mediums and digital platforms and know how to express the CDA companies brand voice in a clear and authentic way.
  • Keep up with current channel strategies and trends, deciphering which ones are appropriate for CDA to implement.
  • Keep a pulse on other departments outside marketing. Maintain a big picture idea of what drives our association.
  • Manage and drive an increased focus on personalization and segmentation of messaging strategy to drive stronger member engagement and utilization of member benefits.
  • Oversee the end-to-end project and production aspects of the team’s content work.
  • Develop a content governance system for traditional and digital channels.
  • Implement, document, and oversee all content quality and change control standards.
  • Maneuver comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics.
  • Use analytics and voice of customer data to inform content strategy.
  • Understands appropriate web taxonomy, navigation and site structures to support usability and findability.
  • Be a champion and advocate of the brand architecture, voice and messaging strategies.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Have in-depth knowledge of CDA and affiliate company products, markets, competition, and audiences in order to create relevant and engaging content that helps drive engagement and revenue

Required Education, Licenses & Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience leading and managing traditional and digital content teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications field of study; communications, journalism, or marketing.
  • Experience using contemporary tools and technologies to plan, create, and execute short and long-form content for marketing campaigns.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to refine and embody brand voice and write on behalf of subject matter experts.
  • Exceptional verbal communicator with strong presentation skills.
  • Deep knowledge of owned and paid content platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the planning, management, and execution of long and short-term marketing projects.
  • Proven ability to set, enforce, and deliver on deadlines in accordance with an editorial calendar.
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team and playing many roles in a matrixed marketing organization.
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative in-house or agency high performing team.
  • Familiarity with modern marketing tech stack, including website publishing (WordPress is a plus), social media management, digital analytics, document management, SEO management, video, podcast, blog and webinar production, project management, content scheduling, and email automation (Real Magnet or equivalent experience is a plus).
  • Ability to seek out and adopt new content platform technologies and approaches to better support marketing goals.
  • Skilled at working with disparate project stakeholders and managing resources in support of marketing and communication campaigns.
  • Mastery in translating user needs into content assets and guiding others to become super contributors and producers.
  • Experience with CMS tools.
  • An excellent eye for engaging and breakthrough content.
  • Experience sourcing and developing brand content, and amplifying it across channels.
  • Ability to effectively project manage and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with e-commerce retail content curation and creation.
