CDA dentists and their staffs have a lot to look forward to at CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in Anaheim next year.
The May 15-17, 2014 event at the Anaheim Convention Center will continue the longstanding tradition of being engaging and inspiring.
“We often hear from members that CDA Presents ignites that spark in them that allows them to go back to their practices with a new energy about the profession,” said Del Brunner, DDS, CDA Presents Board of Managers chair.
CDA Presents in Anaheim is expected to be the most comprehensive show to date, with the following “Top Five” attractions being just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the event offers attendees.
CDA Presents attendees can earn C.E. units for specified courses. Below are just a few of those courses and speakers that will provide valuable and engaging information.
Oral Biopsy Techniques Lecture and Cadaver Workshop (Led by Robert James Achterberg, DDS, MS, and Mark C. Paxton, DDS)
This workshop will focus on soft tissue lesions that are commonly observed and are either “watched” or referred to a specialist. Dentists will become more comfortable with pathology terminology and performing biopsies, indications, contraindications and potential complications of completing biopsy procedures in the oral cavity and maxillofacial complex. The morning presentation and lecture will review basic terminology and biopsy procedures. The afternoon session will provide the opportunity to complete multiple intraoral and maxillofacial complex biopsy procedures on fresh cadaver heads.
Anatomy of the Masticatory System: Clinical Application and Dissection (Henry A. Gremillion, DDS, and Mel Hawkins, DDS, BScD (AN))
This full-day program will be a limited-attendance, detailed dissection of the superficial structures of the face, the masticatory musculature and the temporomandibular joint. Relationships to routine dental assessment and clinical procedures will be highlighted. Participants in the dissection workshop will work in two- to three-member groups, with each group dissecting a half of a cadaver specimen.
Advanced Local Anesthesia: Oral Cavity/Maxillofacial Complex with Human Cadaver Dissection (Led by Mel Hawkins, DDS, BScD (AN), and Mark C. Paxton, DDS)
Participants will learn and perform local anesthesia techniques for the maxillofacial complex and oral cavity, highlighting the infratemporal fossa and the pterygomandibular triangle. A lecture and lab format will offer the opportunity for light, site specific hands-on human cadaver demi-head dissection, isolation, pathway tracing and identification of anatomical structures. Indications, contraindications, complications of second and third division trigeminal nerve blocks are discussed.
