Top CDA Practice Support resources in October

CDA Practice Support is designed to help dentists navigate the business side of dentistry with ease, and it is chock-full of valuable resources to help them run their practices.

Below are the top five trending CDA Practice Support resources in the categories of practice management, employment practices, dental benefit plans and regulatory compliance.

End of Year Letter to Patients Regarding Dental Benefits
The purpose of the letter is to encourage patients to schedule pending treatment that may be covered by the dental benefit plan prior to the end of the benefit year. This letter should inform the patient with dental benefit coverage of the benefits available to him or her and to the patient's family members eligible under the dental benefit plan.

Job Description: A Valuable Tool
The small office employer should not let the employee's status be completely undefined or all encompassing. Developing a job description outlining required qualifications and job duties for every employee benefits both the employer and employee. This resource includes sample job descriptions.

New Patient Health History Form – Spanish
The New Patient Health History Form has been translated to Spanish for use in the dental practice. It is a comprehensive resource pertaining to the gathering of information from a new patient.

Ergonomics/Repetitive Motion Injury Prevention Plan
CDA Regulatory Compliance Manual
This is a sample plan that dentists can customize to describe how their practice prevents repetitive motion injuries. A written plan and program is required under specific circumstances. This resource is part of the CDA Regulatory Compliance Manual.

Instrument Processing Protocol
CDA Regulatory Compliance Manual - Record
Use this sample form and follow the instructions to create a written sterilization protocol. The Dental Board of California establishes minimum requirements for instrument processing and sterilization in its infection control regulations. The board requirements are included in this sample.

In April, Trevor Thorn, DDS, purchased his first solo practice in Sonora and within the first eight months had four of his eight employees go out on disability or maternity leave. Having little experience in handling the business side of a practice when dealing with human resources issues, Thorn picked up the phone and called CDA Practice Support to get up to speed on how to properly accommodate employees who are on disability. There are countless stories just like this of CDA members.

Proper patient communication is key for a dental practice, and that begins when the patient first becomes a patient. Communicating all of the practice’s policies and expectations is vital and that is why CDA has created a member-only New Patient Forms bundle. The bundle is a comprehensive resource pertaining to the gathering of information from the new patient. Dentists can implement the seven forms included in the bundle collectively or utilize them in an “a la carte” fashion if the practice has some, but not all, of the forms already in place.
