New dentists who want to start their careers off right can take advantage of the many resources available at CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in Anaheim. From continuing education opportunities to getting a look at new dental products to meeting with their peers to discuss the direction of the profession, CDA Presents has it all.
For new dentists looking to register for their courses, the CDA New Dentist Committee has identified the following lectures for them to attend:
- TDIC Risk Management: The High Cost of Shortcuts;
- Fundamentals of Laser Dentistry;
- Maximize Social Media – Minimize Risks;
- Practice Transitions – Junior Dentist;
- Building a Successful Dental Practice; and
- Panel on Critical Questions That Lead to Critical Decisions in Your Practice.
“Many of these courses are focused on risk management. Upon finishing dental school, you have just enough knowledge to get yourself in trouble. The goal is to educate and inform new dentists as much as possible about mitigating risk to prevent potential setbacks early in their careers,” said Nicholas Marongiu, DDS, chair of the New Dentist Committee.
In addition to these valuable courses, there are CE opportunities covering all aspects of the dental practice from regulatory requirements like infection control and the California Dental Practice Act to all aspects of clinical dentistry, including operative and surgery through a combination of lectures and hands-on courses.
“The CE opportunities at CDA Presents are vast,” Marongiu said. “My favorite CE opportunity at this point in my career is practice management as I transition into owning and operating a private practice.”
Marongiu, who has been attending CDA Presents since he was a sophomore in dental school, now attends with his entire staff and the other dentists that he works with. They all stay at the same hotel and attend many courses and social events together, Marongiu said.
“This time together to bond as a team outside the office is very valuable and really builds friendships and camaraderie that without a doubt make the office run much smoother,” Marongiu said. “As an office, we always stay an extra day and go to Disneyland together, which is always a highlight.”
There is a wide selection of restaurants and lounges to accommodate any social event at CDA Presents. The Anaheim Convention Center is adjacent to Disneyland and Downtown Disney is within walking distance.
In addition to continuing education and the team building that can take place at CDA Presents, new dentists have the opportunity to interact with the vendors on the exhibit floor to learn about new products. The 130,000-square-foot exhibit floor at the Anaheim Convention Center will feature more than 550 companies, spotlighting a number of new dental products, equipment and services.
“The exhibitor floor appeals to new dentists because they get exposure to all the new dental materials and the new and upcoming technology that will better serve their patients,” Marongiu said. “The product I recommend new dentists to check out and keep an eye on CAD/CAM, both in office milling and impressioning systems"
“If you are a new dentist and have not been to CDA Presents, take the time and make the commitment to attend, you will not be disappointed,” Marongiu continued.
