You’ve heard lecturers mention the big fines that result when OSHA visits a practice. Ever wonder if those stories you hear are true? Here's a summary of Cal/OSHA citations and penalties for dental offices from October 2007 to September 2008.

Column 1, Standard, is the section number of the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, under which the citation is given.

Column 2 is the number of citations given.

Column 3 is the number of offices inspected.

Column 4 is the total amount of penalties assessed per cited Standard.

Column 5 is the name and subject of the Standard.

A total of eighteen offices were inspected.The number of inspections is low, but the penalties are large.It’s not surprising to see the most citations and the largest penalties are assessed under the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
