Mission Statement
The mission of the Leadership Development Committee is to meet current and future needs of the association by recruiting potential leaders from the broadest base of membership and providing quality educational opportunities for members to develop skills to become effective leaders in organized dentistry.
Primary Duties
The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) has two major responsibilities: recruiting members to serve in CDA volunteer leadership positions and educating CDA members to help them develop leadership skills that will help them in their professional, personal and volunteer endeavors.
Each member of the committee will serve on both the recruitment and education sides of LDC.
Time Requirements
- Three in-person, general committee meetings a year
- General committee conference calls as required
- Subcommittee meetings and conference calls as required
- Leadership Education Conference or a Regional Leadership Training
- Component membership meetings (as able or assigned)
Qualifications, Special Skills and Knowledge
- Outgoing, likeable, ability to communicate well and meet new people
- Participation in various organizations, i.e. AGD, study clubs, faculty, VA, Military, dental forum, etc. so that they can network with people that might not be active in CDA and encourage new applicants
- Have experience putting on speaking events
- Have an interest in leadership topics and have taken courses on personal leadership
- Have ability to follow-through on multiple tasks
- Previous CDA and/or component leadership experience helpful
Composition and Terms of Office
The committee is composed of eight at-large members, one of whom must be a dentist within his or her first 10 years of practice, and two trustee members. Members serve two-year terms with a maximum of three terms.
