ADA Delegation

Mission Statement

To serve as one of the official representatives of this association to the House of Delegates of the American Dental Association, and to endeavor at all times to fulfill duties in a manner which will promote the best interests of the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association.

Primary Duties

The duties and obligations of a delegate include:

• Read and become familiar with all meeting and background materials
• Participate in and contribute to a Reference Committee Study Group
• Serve as a mentor to a freshman delegate if requested
• Attend all delegation, reference committee, ADA house, planning and networking meetings
• Serve as a Reference Committee Whip if called upon
• Network, build new relationships and maintain contact with delegates from other districts  
• Wear the lanyard and use provided identifying materials representing our delegation in California professionally, effectively and in keeping with CDA’s core values  

Time Requirements

 Participation in the following meetings is expected:

• Thirteenth District Delegation Meeting (1-2 days per year)
• ADA House of Delegates (5-6 days per year)
• Participate in social, networking and lobbying activities as needed

Qualifications, Special Skills and Knowledge

• Need to have leadership skills and be capable of being a committee chair
• Need to be well versed on dental and association issues and policy
• Outgoing and able to network with others
• Need people with connections in other groups, i.e. AGD, dental schools, etc.
• National dental association leadership experience and expertise
• Must be an active, life, or retired ADA/CDA member

Composition and Terms of Office

The CDA delegation to the ADA shall consist of the number of delegates allocated to this association by the ADA.  Ex officio delegates are: the president, president-elect, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, speaker, immediate past president, editor, and TDIC/TDIC Insurance Solutions chair.

The term of office for delegates is two years.  The term of office for alternate delegates is one year.  An unlimited number of terms may be served.

♦      October 10-14, 2011 – Las Vegas, NV
♦      October 18-23, 2012 – San Francisco, CA
♦      October 31-November 5, 2013 – New Orleans, LA
♦      October 9-October 12, 2014 – San Antonio, TX
