Committee on the New Dentist

Mission Statement

The Committee on the New Dentist (CND) serves to identify and address the needs and issues facing new dentists and assists in the transition from graduate to new practitioner. The CND encourages and promotes membership along with increased involvement and active participation of new dentists in organized dentistry. The CND serves in an advisory role on issues affecting new dentists to the Board of Trustees (board) and internal CDA departments and promotes the perspectives of the new dentist through ex-officio positions on appropriate councils, committees, and task forces.

Primary Duties

  • To serve in an advisory role providing the new dentist perspective on appropriate CDA councils, committees, and task forces on an annual rotation by presidential appointment
  • To serve as a new dentist advisory group for CDA, its subsidiaries, and its affiliates
  • To support the tripartite network for new dentists, providing recommendations and assistance for new dentist committees at the component level and programs of the ADA Committee on the New Dentist
  • To participate in activities related to CDA student members
  • To encourage new dentists from each of the components to participate in CDA leadership development programs
  • To identify and recruit new dentists for leadership positions in organized dentistry at all levels of the tripartite

Time Requirements

Committee Meetings: 3 one-day meetings
Council Meetings as Guest Member: 4 one-day meetings
Conferences/Additional Meetings: TBD
CDA Presents: 1 one-day meeting
ADA New Dentist Conference (Chair and Vice-Chair only): 1 two-day meeting

Qualifications/Special Skills and Knowledge

  • Must be a new dentist (defined as ten years of licensure or less)
  • Have not served or are not currently serving as a trustee or on a council, committee or board at CDA
  • 13th District representative on ADA Committee on the New Dentist will serve as ex-officio member
  • CND will appoint one dental student member on an annual rotation to serve as a guest

Terms of Office

The term of office of at-large members of the committee shall be one year.  The tenure of an at-large member of the committee shall be limited to three full or partial terms.
