Proposition 46: The threat to malpractice protection

Proposition 46 and the threat it poses to health care providers and the patients they serve was the topic of a timely lecture at CDA Presents in San Francisco. With the Nov. 4 election drawing closer, “MICRA: What Dentists Need to Know About the Threat to Malpractice Protection” outlined how Proposition 46 would raise the cap on noneconomic damages that would result in large payouts to trial lawyers, who are behind the ballot measure that also calls for physician drug testing and a statewide prescription database that jeopardizes patient privacy. Life Happens, a nonprofit organization formed in 1994, has dubbed September Life Insurance Awareness Month. Bettie Underwood dental assisting scholarship awarded

The CDA Foundation again provided the Bettie Underwood Dental Assisting Scholarship, selecting Stefanie Dellatori of San Diego Mesa College, to receive the financial award offered to dental assisting students in pursuit of their educational goals. Dellatori showed financial need, academic achievement and a strong desire for a career in the dental field, stating that her long-term goal is to “help patients improve their health through quality care.” Read more >>

Nov. 4 vote will impact your practice

The campaign working to defeat Proposition 46 in November has ramped up its voter education activities by launching statewide television and radio ads to defeat the ballot initiative backed by trial lawyers. The No on 46 campaign is airing the ads in English and Spanish, highlighting the high cost of Proposition 46 — both in dollars and patient access to care — which would raise the cap on the state’s Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA).
