In a four-part series, CDA is profiling members who have taken different approaches to how they practice in order to counter changes in the profession such as an overall drop in adults seeking dental care, the decline in the economy and real estate market, increased regulatory compliance, reduced reimbursement rates and more. The first article in the series features a dentist who practices in Stockton with a diverse population, including low-income patients. Leadership in tripartite begins in dental school

Each level of the tripartite structure of organized dentistry offers valuable benefits and resources to dentists across California, including education, protection, support and advocacy. None of it would be possible without the foresight of thousands of dentists, and that leadership begins in the state’s dental schools. Soon-to-be dentists across the state are active at their respective schools. The ADA recently launched a nationwide campaign to combat what it calls “a disturbing dental divide in America.” The Action for Dental Health: Dentists Making a Difference is designed to counter staggering statistics such as these: 181 million Americans didn't visit a dentist in 2010, nearly half of the population over the age of 30 is suffering from some form of gum disease and nearly one in four children under the age of 5 already has cavities. Still time to register for CDA Presents San Francisco

CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in San Francisco is quickly approaching and there is limited space available for lectures, but those who have yet to register still have time. CDA Presents encompasses dynamic speakers, an extensive tradeshow, numerous CE credit opportunities and social events. The Aug. 15-17 event will feature more than 110 lectures and workshops and an exhibit hall packed with 350 companies that spotlight several innovative products at the Moscone South Convention Center. Legislature approves restoring Adult Denti-Cal

The effort to restore Adult Denti-Cal benefits is one step closer to reality after the Legislature voted on a new state budget plan. The funding, which is a result of the leadership exhibited by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), still needs the governor’s signature. Steinberg made the restoration of Adult Denti-Cal a top priority after his visit last August to CDA Cares in Sacramento. Read more >>

 

Kenyan dental delegation visits California

Six leading dental professionals from the Kenya Dental Association recently visited Northern California, including CDA headquarters, as part of a 10-day training program to help develop and promote oral health education activities for a program called Kenya Smiles, aiming to improve the oral health of children in the African country, particularly remote areas. Besides spending time at CDA, the delegation, which included Kenya’s chief dentist and dental school professors, the delegation visited dental schools as well as the State Capitol to be recognized for their work and learn more about advocacy efforts on behalf of children’s oral health. CDA launches electronic newsletter

CDA members are now receiving an electronic newsletter once every two weeks that allows them to select which topics they wish to receive news articles and updates about. In total, there are 12 topics members will be able to choose from including CDA Cares, CDA Presents, Education, Legislation, Practice Support and TDIC Risk Management.
